Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance policies are expensive and tricky. Our latest call is an example of both.

Jill on Money Radio Show: Pre-Tax or Roth 401(k)?

With more and more employers offering a Roth option, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about which makes more sense, the Roth or pre-tax option?

Are we in good shape for retirement? That’s another very popular question this year. In this particular case, the couple is eager to call it quits and do some traveling.

We also mixed in another call and some emails to wrap up the first hour.

In hour two we’re once again joined by Brent Weiss, co-founder and Head of Planning at Facet Wealth, and the 2021 sponsor of Jill on Money.

This time around we’re talking about all things insurance, including term life insurance, long term care policies, and disability coverage, especially for all the freelancers out there.

Will I Outlive My Money?

One of the biggest concerns about retirement is whether or not you're going to outlive your money. Things only get more complicated when you mix in a spouse with long-term health care needs.

Keep or Ditch LTC Policy?

Long-term care policies are becoming harder and harder to find, and if you do find one, they're also getting more and more expensive. Deciding whether to keep or ditch an existing policy can be very tricky. That's the discussion with Matt from Philadelphia who's helping his mother navigate her options.

CBS This Morning: Care for the Elderly

Caregiving for elderly Americans can be a huge expense in time and money for their loved ones. A new report shows 20 percent of all caregivers say they spend more than 40 hours a week providing that help. For many, that's about the equivalent of a full time job and close to eight in 10 pay for the costs out of their own pockets. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss why the burden of taking care of elderly loved ones tends to fall disproportionately on one family member and particularly women.

Informal Caregivers Footing the Bill

Informal Caregivers Footing the Bill

I have always had a special place in my heart for caregivers. According to a new study from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, family and friends are assuming more of the responsibility of caring for the nation’s growing senior population, often at the expense of their own personal and professional lives. For about one-quarter of these “informal caregivers,” the amount of time they spend providing care each week is the equivalent of a full-time job.

Insurance 101 with Policygenius

I love people and organizations who take complex financial issues and make them easier for the user.

Few things are more complex than the insurance industry. And few organizations have managed to make it easy for the user to navigate the insurance landscape.

One such organization is Policygenius, a website that offers users an easy way to compare and buy various products such as life, auto, disability, and homeowners policies.

Today we’re lucky enough to be joined by Jennifer Fitzgerald, the founder and CEO of Policygenius.

For Fitzgerald, the business started with a simple question…”Why is buying insurance such a frustrating experience?”

As consultants to the top insurance companies, Fitzgerald and her partner suspected that this consumer problem was behind a lot of things they observed. It’s why life insurance ownership is at a 50-year low. It’s why health and disability under-insurance is behind most personal bankruptcies and home foreclosures. And it’s why they started Policygenius.

Their mission is simple: “To get people the insurance coverage they need and make them feel good about it.”

That means they thoughtfully built their business for every type of insurance consumer who may come their way:

  • Detail-oriented? They building the best insurance content library out there
  • More of a big picture person? Their Insurance Checkup is the best (and only) big picture tool around
  • Convenience shopper? They’re building a one-stop shop. If you need life insurance and pet insurance, you shouldn’t have to go to a bunch of different sites.
  • Skeptic? They’re an independent site and not affiliated with any insurers. They’ll provide you with choice and the information you need to make the right decision.

It’s a rare treat to be joined by somebody who is truly excited about the insurance industry!
